The protagonist Wei WuXian is very fitting for the song "Villain" by Stella Jang. He is very sassy and goofy but also written intricately and his actions so far do not make you cringe.
What I like about the translation is that there are pages in the back about Chinese phrases and characters explaining what they each mean. However, one aspect of the translation/ writing that bugged me a little was the use of slang which is kind of off-putting for me because the setting of the book is in fantastical ancient China but the languages used are very modern American. (;´д`)ゞ This is why I did not rate this a 5/5 :( but the plot, character development, and worldbuilding otherwise deserve a 5/5 so far! ♪(´▽`)
As for the plot, it is very well-paced has a good flow, and is very captivating for me to read. There are mysteries all over the story and each of the mysteries so far is well explained. Most importantly, there are no plot holes and the story logically makes sense.
The story explores the consequences of using dark magic, the importance of forgiveness and redemption, and the dangers of prejudice and hatred. The story also features elements of Chinese mythology and folklore. It includes elements of Chinese XiuXian (修仙) which is kind of like magic but you will see when you read it. The tale has WuXia (武俠) vibes and has a good balance between heavy and light themes. If you are interested in those elements, this would be a very fun read for you! = ̄ω ̄=
